LEICA MASTER SHOTS – HOW TO:
I want to show my work. How do I proceed?
Sign up at the LFI Gallery. This way you can upload your photographs onto the internet. When uploading, you will be asked to assign the picture to an album. Choose the one corresponding to your camera system: 'M8', 'D-Lux', 'C-Lux' and so on. Register here.
Am I obliged to register under my own name?
No. You can sign up with your artist name – just be sure to include your real name in your profile. Most of all, leave us an email address you check regularly.
How many photos can I upload?
We've set no limits. However, bear in mind that less tends to be more – it's a way to ensure that your true masterpieces do not get lost in the masses. We suggest you only submit the pearls from your photographic archives.
Will all my photographs be featured in the Master Shots albums?
There's no guarantee. We've commissioned a jury to select only the best submissions, and it might take some time before your work actually appears in a Master Shots album. If it does get featured you already have good reason to be proud, as this alone stands as proof of your talent. Are you wondering why your picture hasn't been included in our cream of the crop section? We're really sorry to disappoint you, but it happens. We recommend you set up a personal account in the photographer's gallery and upload your images there. This is another great way to present you work in style.
I'd like to upload my pictures into a Master Shots as well as a personal album. How can I do that?
Upload your picture twice. In the first upload, assign your photo to your personal album, in the second to the Master Shots album. Or vice versa.
Are you wondering why your picture hasn't been included in our cream of the crop section? We're really sorry to disappoint you, but it happens. If you insist on your work getting out there we recommend you set up a personal account in the photographer's gallery and upload your images there. This is another great way to present you work in style.
Which format should I use?
Our server only accepts files up to 1 megabyte in size. Lower the resolution of your photograph and store it as a JPEG. If the picture still exceeds 1 MB, try reducing the JPEG quality a little. Please reduce the width and length of your picture to ensure optimal viewing on an average screen size. We recommend somewhere around 1000 pixels width and 700 pixels height. Scale your work using quality imaging software and check your results. In Photoshop you can change the image size under Image/Image size. Find more information here(PDF file opens in a new window).
How important is EXIF data?
Very important! EXIF data contains essential information about your work and equipment, such as camera type, lens and camera settings. You can view the EXIF information in properties' section of your image. If the EXIF data is not included – such as in the case of an error, or a scanned or photoshopped photograph –, we as of you to tell us which camera and lens you used; and if you can remember, please list the aperture and ISO information, too. If you don't mention the type of camera used, we will be obliged to delete the picture.
My picture was removed from the Master Shots Album. What happened?
Having a website full of fantastic imagery can be both impressive and overwhelming. That's why we strive to keep the Master Shots section nice and tight. We will relocate your photo to your album.
By uploading my picture into a Master Shots album, am I handing the copyright over to LFI?
No! The work you feature on our website remains yours, and so does the copyright. There's nothing stopping you from publishing your pictures elsewhere. However, as long as they are on our server you cannot grant a third or fourth party exclusive rights. We will not pass on your image without your permission. You can also choose to remove your work from our server at any time. If you wish to do so, send us an e-mail to gallery(at)lfi-online.de and state your user name as well as the name of the picture.
There's something I haven't fully understood. Who can I turn to?
