Question: I have this fantastic shot. How can I get it into the Master Shots section?
Answer: Proceed as though you were about to upload into an album, only this time select Master Shots instead of Album. Your work will be scrutinised by the jury and either accepted or not. Find detailed information about the Master Shots here.

Question: I have this fantastic shot. How can I get it into “A Picture and its Story”?
Answer: Proceed as though you were about to upload into an album, only this time select “A Picture and its Story” instead of Album and add a description of about five sentences. Your work will be scrutinised by the jury and either accepted or not. Find detailed information about the “A Picture and its Story” here.

Question: The upload isn't working. What's happening?
Answer: In the course of uploading, did you remember to choose an album – either your own or a Master Shots? Our server will only be able to locate your work if you've selected an album. Also bear in mind that your uploads are limited to 1MB per photograph. Larger files are not accepted and will not be uploaded onto the server. Errors also occur when you have selected a file format other than JPEG. If this is the case, please re-save your photograph as a JPEG and upload again. Or, perhaps the upload was successful but hasn't yet been verified by the administrator (can take up to 24 hours). Find detailed information on upload and file-size reduction here (PDF document opens in new window). If none of these points apply, please contact the administrator at gallery(at)lfi-online.de

Question: Which file format do I use?
Answer: Use JPEG files. It's the format our server understands best. Please don't use TIFF or JPEG 2000.

Question: What's the maximum file size?
Answer: Whether imported from a scanner or digital camera, you will have to reduce your files in size. The server accepts a maximum file size of 1MB. It's worth keeping the quality low (approx. 300 KB) to make better use of the storage space on the server. Find detailed information on how to reduce the file size here (PDF document opens in new window).

Question: Where can I view my photographs?
Answer: Your uploaded pictures will be showcased in “My Gallery” once they have been activated by the administrator. Alternatively you can find your name in the alphabetic list or search it in the search field.

Question: How can I modify captions, keywords and titles?
Answer: There are two ways to do this. One is through “Modify my albums” in the “Album” drop-down menu. Select an album in the combo box at the top right of the page in the Update Album section. Then click on “Edit pictures here” to reveal the properties of your pictures in the corresponding album. Alternatively, you can open a picture and click on the “paper-and-pen” symbol above it. That takes you straight to the picture's properties. Now you can modify the title, captions and keywords and, in doing so, help other photographers as well as the LFI editorial office locate your work.

Question: How can I transfer a picture from one album to another?
Answer: See previous point “How can I modify captions, keywords and titles?” to reveal properties. In the properties, select the album in the combo box where you want to store the picture. The photo will be transferred automatically to the selected album.

Question: How can I create my user icon from one of my photographs?
Answer: See previous point “How can I modify captions, keywords and titles?” to reveal the properties of a picture. Click on “Make this my icon” to ensure that this picture is the one that other photographers will see first when browsing the Leica Photo Gallery.

Question: How can I sort my pictures?
Answer: Go to “Album” / “Sort my pictures”. Select an album and adjust the order in which you want your pictures to appear.

Question: How can I create a “cover shot” for my album?
Answer: Go to “Modify my albums”. Select an album in the combo box at the top right of the page in the Update Album section. Then click on “Album thumbnail” in the drop-down menu to define the cover shot of an album.

Question: How can I insert a link?
Answer: See the point “How can I modify captions, keywords and titles?” to reveal properties and notice the question-mark button next to the edit field labelled “Album description”. Clicking this button button reveals a code into which you can insert a website or e-mail address. Here's an example: to insert a website, copy the code Url Text into the edit field. Then replace “yoursite.com” with your web address and “URL Text” with your name or other relevant information. Then click on “Apply modifications”. The link to your website will now appear below your picture. Additionally, you can insert the link into an album's descriptive text. To do so, enter the code information into the edit field in “Album properties”. Feel free to link us to your website – likewise, we're always happy about a link back to LFI Gallery.

Question: How can I delete my photographs?
Answer: Open the picture you want to delete. Above the picture you will find a task bar with icons in it. Notice the rubbish bin. Click it to delete the picture. Pictures featured in the Master Shots section, however, cannot be deleted as they are – technically speaking – subject to LFI's albums. If you insist on having your photo removed from the Master Shots section, send us an e-mail at gallery(at)lfi-online.de, stating your user name, the title of the picture and a brief description of the picture's content.

Question: Can I decide which categories I want my pictures to be allocated to?
Answer: No, the way in which pictures are allocated to categories is decided by LFI. The “Categories” section showcases particularly well-crafted photographs that fit together both thematically and optically. On the occasion that we overlook a great photograph you may make a suggestion by e-mailing us at gallery(at)lfi-online.de. However, we cannot guarantee that the suggested picture will be allocated to the suggested category.

Question: How can I rate a picture?
Answer: To rate a picture you have to be logged on first. Open a picture and rate it with the amount of stars you feel appropriate (shown below the picture). Not all pictures can be rated: every photographer can establish the rules for his or her albums, whether or not they want their photographs to be rated.
