PHOTO STORY
Every picture has a story – and so does yours. We're interested in your photo story taken with your digital Leica M.
Use the 'Photo Story' category to publish your best photographs accompanied by a concise descriptive text consisting of about five sentences. Tell us what makes your work so special. Describe the moment in which the picture was taken, explain your choice of lens, tell us the slider you used in Photoshop. All images and captions will be assessed by a qualified jury and only the best displayed. Every week one of the published works will be singled out and exhibited on the Leica website for a maximum of six weeks.
STEPS TO BECOMING A STORY TELLER:
Where do I start?
Have you already registered at the LFI Gallery? If not, please click here. This gives you access to the 'Photo Story' section. Be sure to write your descriptive text in the given text field.
Will all of my photo stories be shown?
'Photo Story' presents only the very best photographs and anecdotes, elected by a team of photo experts. Non-featured work is allocated to your personal album, which you can modify to fit your style of photography.
I don't have a digital M. Can I upload my pictures and stories anyway?
For now, 'Photo Story' is restricted to digital M users only. This may change in the future. Subscribe to our newsletterto remain up to date on the latest gallery developments.
Must I give my real name?
No. You may use your artist name. However, if you're interested in seeing your work published on Leica's official website you must also include your real name in the picture title. Your user name can remain unchanged.
Do I have to write my photo anecdote in English?
It's not compulsory but it's better. Because our website is visited by thousands of photographers from around the world, it would be a pity not to share your story out of fear of making grammatical mistakes. If you want to see your work posted on the Leica website, however, you will have to write your story in English. The website, which is bilingual, also offers a space for you to write your caption in German. If your story is selected and there is time, our staff will translate your English caption into German.
I would love to see my photo featured on Leica's official website. What must I do?
Write your story in English. Give your full name and tell us which camera and lens you used. Let us know when and where the picture was taken (check the EXIF data for the exact date), and that's all!
One of my pictures has made it into the 'Photo Story' category. Does that mean it will be featured on Leica's website?
Not necessarily. One picture per week is chosen for the official Leica website. You may or may not be the lucky one!
I would like to include my photographs in 'Photo Story' and in my own album – and preferably even in Master Shots. How can I do that?
Upload your picture three times – once into your album, once into Master Shots and once into 'Photo Story'.
What format should my picture be in?
Pictures may not exceed 1 MB file size. Reduce image height and width and save it as JPEG. If the image still exceeds 1 MB after down-scaling, reduce the quality a little. Reduce the width and length to 1000 pixels (maximum) and set the resolution to 72 dpi. For more information on how to adjust the image size, click here(PDF-file will open in new window).
Should I keep the EXIF files of my images?
Absolutely! As we are only admitting digital M pictures the EXIF file is necessary for proof. Please do NOT use the 'save for web' function offered by many imaging programs as it will delete the EXIF data.
My picture has been deleted from the 'Photo Story' category. What happened?
Just like the Master Shots section, the new category is tidied up regularly. Your photo story will have been allocated to your album.
I wrote a text which no longer looks like the one I wrote on the web page. What’s going on?
In rare cases the LFI editorial staff reserves the right to shorten or revise the texts.
When I upload my work into 'Photo Story', do I submit the rights to the image?
No. You are giving us the right to publish your image on our website – which is the sole point of loading it onto our website. You may carry on publishing your images elsewhere. However, once you have uploaded your photo into 'Photo Story' you may no longer give exclusive rights to other parties for as long as the image remains on our server. To have your image removed from our server at any time, write us an email at gallery(at)lfi-online.de and give us your user name and the name of your picture.
Pictures featured on Leica-online.com cannot be removed and will be featured for a maximum period of six weeks.
